A very warm welcome to everyone…..
After a series of two summers that collectively lasted a total of a week….I am back in jeans and jersey to ward off the fresh wind that has been whipped up from the berg…but with flashes of green showing on the grass, trees bushes and flowers, spring has definitely arrived….albeit in fits and starts….
We have experienced a wonderful last few weeks at the Club….the derby day was a magnificent affair with both our sides ending on top and being able to bring home the bragging rights, whilst on the same day Junior Rugby hosted their home festival….and last weekend, we had a marvellous hockey day ending with the prize giving…our runners at the Comrades were magnificent.. collectively, the North has been cooking… hehehe, maybe that was the reason for the warmer weather!!
In the meanwhile, the Joker draw has still been lurking the background, with the Jester remaining elusive… after 7 weeks, the Jackpot has now edged its way up to R13819….in the selections of tickets drawn, almost all thus far have been Members and I believe this trend will continue…. with the evenings warming up now, pop in and enjoy a cold one with your mates and try your luck at the draw…tickets are still only R5 for a chance to win….
Our soccer boys have been having a wonderful run….and since the derby day we have been on top in our last two encounters as well….so at present in the league, we are second to Luso, with a couple of points separating the rest….our fellows have a simple task…win the rest of our games and keep the pressure on the top side…. They may falter and that would leave the last game of the year….a home encounter against Luso on the 24th….which will be an amazing ending to our anniversary celebrations….this week we travel to the Italian Club in Bedfordview, to take on Olympia…keep up the good work…they will really appreciate our support…please join them on the weekend….
The Rugby Club had their show piece affair recently… hosting their Junior Festival Tournament… it was really a super day…. plenty of thrills and spills…major support from the family and friends of all the players….. everything ran so smoothly…so congratulations to the Committee on a job well done…we are already looking forward to next year!!
Hockey had their annual prize giving and fun day on Saturday… judging from all the smiles in the beer garden after the match up games, it can be guaranteed that fun was enjoyed by all…. congratulations to all the prize winners…may you continue to grow and blossom in your sport….
The Comrades brought its fair share of drama…. pride and happiness achieved, alongside all the emotions on the other side of the scale….as a Club we had a prestigious day…. silver medals, almost 120 finishers, 2 new green numbers, a double green and even a triple green…… Well done to all those who participated, assisted and made this day possible….. we are all extremely proud of all of you…
We are nearing the gala anniversary dinner which will be at the Club on September 23rd…. there will be a “Call back the past celebration” for everyone on the 22nd…. We will be having an alcohol promotion… buy one get one free evening, so there should be plenty to get excited with that….and then rugby will also be hosting their 10 a side tournament on the 24th on the rugby fields…. And with our last home soccer fixture for the year scheduled at home on the same Saturday… this promises to be a great weekend of fun and celebration…make sure to mark the dates in your diary…
See you all soon at the North
