The Scimitar 16 Jan 2020
A very good day to everyone
The new year has arrived at the North and with the schools back this week, I am sure that the routine will kick in and it will soon feel like that we never had any break….but with the new year always hold exiting prospects….our children have all moved up a grade at school and all the parents are asking “where has the time gone?”….the children look forward to the new challenges with verve and vigour….I wish we were able to maintain that early year positive outlook always….
Our six-a-side cricket opener to the second half of the season was unfortunately weather affected, so the event had to be postponed to the end of the season when it will be hosted on March 28….I will be looking forward to that….with that said, all the juniors will be back in force this week as will the seniors in preparation for the second half of the season….good luck to all our sides that will be playing over the weekend….
The winter sports are also about to get into the nitty gritty with their pre-season training as soccer and rugby will have their charges out on the practice fields over the next week…. I am sure that all the players are dreading the first few weeks as the coaches get their revenge for the last few weeks of indulgence….so keep biting those lips chaps and you will be in shape pretty quickly and able to enjoy your sport without huffing and puffing….
Hockey are also getting themselves geared up….looking for any new players interested in playing in the Southern Gauteng league in the upcoming season….there are some interesting developments on the hockey front and I am sure that this will benefit hockey in Benoni both in the short and long term….
Any Senior Men interested in playing Hockey for the Benoni Northerns 1st or 2nd teams in the Southern Gauteng League this 2020 Season.

Baseball are back into the full swing of the new year and host matches over the entire weekend…good luck to everyone….hold the name of the North on high as you represent this great Club….
Our Friday night was a most festive evening with the Karaoke evening and it was a pleasant surprise to have the footballers joining us in the Scimitar and displaying their talents and I thoroughly enjoyed myself listening to all the talent that had been hidden in the depths of the dungeon…thanks guys, no excuses next time…this week we have the amazing talents of Cedz and Tryst which means that we will be rocking the night away…..
Our joker draw continues as we had another roll over last week….our caterer Marge had her name extracted from the beeeeg black box and after hauling out a crate to let Marge look the joker cabinet “in the eyes” for a change….she pointed to selection which unfortunately for her turned out to be the nine of hearts….and so the jackpot increases… we are up to R116 622 for this week….who knows when the joker will make his appearance?….and it could be you sitting with that money in your account….come down this Friday to find out if you have the luck at finding where the Jester has been hiding……tickets sales start at about 17h00….with the last sales at 19h20 and the draw commencing at 19h30…. join us on this festive Friday and start your weekend on the right foot….
Our renovations have reached completion with the ladies bar already being used as the first meetings for the year…..I think with the wall being removed, the space available now in this area is unbelievable…and as soon as the security door is in the committee room we can do the finishing touches to this area as well….
Those of you who have gone past the Club will have seen that our caravan has had a yellow and white stripe added…which means that our marvellous artist Lindsey will be adding her special touch to “the Coach” and will make it trendy and new again…. I can’t wait….and I am sure that very soon we will have another reason for a massive party as we officially “launch” our mobile bar for its maiden voyage….
If you have any complaints of compliments about the club….please email me on rod.scheepers@gmail.com ……
Have a super week…. hope to see you soon….
Regards Rod
