The Scimitar 9 Sep 2020
Warm greetings from the North…..
As I said in my last set of ramblings that I will be in contact with you more regularly….and until we resume our primary objective of hosting sport at our facility where you will have to endure my thoughts and ideas every week…..I will send you an update fortnightly to keep in tune with what is happening at the Club….so here is your current slice…..
Since my last massage….quite a lot has happened….Let me begin….
With the arrival of Spring (in my youth, September 1 was the opening of the public swimming pools) and this year the advent of Spring was a little more of Jack Frost and his merry men making an arrival rather than me hauling out my swimming apparel to display my limited swimming skills…. The first couple of days of spring definitely made me wrap up warm and snugly to ward off the cold and rainy weather…but that said…the sprinkling of showers that we had….has altered all the grasslands in the area to display a distinct greenish hue…so much so, that Brian has got his team already onto their tasks of cutting and clearing in anticipation of the growing season….and all of us up and ready for the start of our summer….. one of the little things that has also arrived in addition to lockdown, appears to be a more intensive load shedding schedule…and we have made sure that our generator is up to the task and is ready for whatever Eishkom may throw at us…..that we can continue to enjoy ourselves….
I have also seen correspondence that two of our sports are being allowed back onto the fields…..Baseball have some procedures and protocols they need to put into place before they can begin, whilst Hockey is allowing all provincial and national players to resume training (no games or contact, but drills and exercise)….so hopefully this is the start of some activity on our sports front…..
We have had two joker draws since coming back….and although we haven’t had a winner yet….there appears to be a trend of all the old areas in the Club being selected….. week 1 of the Joker draw had Martin Iske having his name drawn from the beeeeeeg black box again (the area where he sits, has definitely had its fair share of names pulled from the box)… but that is where Martin’s good fortune ended…. he drew the three of spades, pushing the jackpot up by over R1000….. and week 2 saw the legal eagles corner having their chance….as visiting country member Carl Schroeder’s name emerged (after a false start where the first name out had already gone home)…..but his ability at guessing where the joker is eluded him and he had to settle with the jack of hearts…. This missed opportunity also allowed another roll over into the the “pot”, letting the total now to be R62658….another good reason to come up to the Club this Friday, good food, cold beer, lots of quality company and a chance of taking home over R60k…hopefully I will see you there….we had our first attempt at streaming the joker draw into the Scimitar…and with some valuable lessons learned….we will hopefully this week have a snag free attempt and have the full screen up and running….
Please remember that the Marge’s scrumptious meals from the Kitchen are available open over the weekends and on Wednesdays….while the Pizza kitchen is open from 10am daily…. During the week we open the pub at 1pm daily, with Fridays starting a little earlier at midday…..on weekends we open alittle earlier at 10am….. closing times will remain at 9pm daily…..please assist us with these earlier stopping times….we are adhering to the strict letter of the law, as the curfew kicks in at 10pm and we would like all our Members and patrons home before this…..
I would like to personally thank everyone who has contributed to the staff challenge….we are distributing these funds to the staff every second week…. And they have asked me to also convey their gratitude for the generosity….
Hopefully I will see you all soon….
Take care and stay safe
