BNSC NEWSLETTER
Good morning from our industrious office at the North
The last week has been a little crazy here with year end and the implementation of the membership cards and putting the dual price lists into effect…..and as always there have been some hiccoughs…..but not enough for me to lose my hair completely (admittedly the barber at the “shavathon” on Saturday didn’t have too much work to do as he shaved my head) and we appear to have got through the weekend fairly well…with plenty of members in possession of their new cards….none of our Barmen were assaulted as a result of the higher pricing…we have had an influx of new membership applications….so I am fairly confident that the new system will be of a great advantage to us currently and in the future….
Could all Members please take note that within a week our “Lightening threat” siren will be in operation….we have had some fairly hectic and crazy electric storms in the recent past…and would like to protect anyone playing sport on our fields from the perils associated with this form of storm…..if you are in the region of the North and see anyone playing on our fields…please exercise your civic duty and chase them off in the interests of their own safety….we have seen a growing list of fatalities recently…we do not want to add to these shocking statistics….
For the first time, in many months I was unable to attend our Friday night festivities…but I had some very able and willing Members to report back on any shenanigans that occurred….our popular band, Coyote played their hearts out in the Scimitar bar….keeping the feet tapping, hands clapping and people dancing and singing along for the evening….a great evening of entertainment enjoyed by all….and although it is a tough act to follow, this week we will host the 5 piece band Omega….who always have the crowd on their feet…so please join us for some Friday Fun this week….
The Joker draw this week has a new contestant for this particular draw….but he has been up in this “hot-seat” before…and is also a very familiar face at the North….Ralph Cook was the lucky person to the drawn…and despite the Chairman’ antics, he settled down to make his selection…in the bottom left corner…and when turned, it wasn’t the joker, but the four of hearts….amid the noise that broke out…singing…chanting…clapping…laughing…Lockey trying to keep control and announce that the Jackpot had increased to R140567 and that there now were only 16 cards which are still face down…so please join us this week to see if you could be our newest winner of the Joker Jackpot…ticket sales begin at about 17h00 and continue through to 19h20….with the draw taking place at 19h30….
We had mixed results from our subsections over the weekend…so let me start with Baseball…who were surprised at the last minute late on Friday evening, to be told that they were hosting 14 Softball matches on Saturday…and a roaring success it was….with plenty of positive response to the quality of our playing fields which was overwhelming…so we can expect to be hosting more events of this type in the future…well done to Shaun and his team on a job well done….
Rugby participated in the Brakpan rugby day and had a really good day with three of our teams playing…. the Ladies side had their first run and ended the match with a 14-14 draw against Jaguars…a lovely start for the girls and a great stepping stone to start the season…the U21’s overpowered the Daveyton side in a complete mismatch 69-0….while the first side played Kempton and really impressed in the first half but allowed the opposition back in the second half to win 28-17… this week the teams head off to Nigel for the day….good luck to all of our teams….
Our soccer sides travelled to Alberton to play a new side in the league, Musa United….to be greeted that their fields were already being used by an U19 development match, so the reserves could not take the field at the allotted time…which resulted in a 2-0 walkover for our boys…not the ideal preparation for a difficult couple of weeks that awaits our lads….but be that as it may…the first side overcame the difficult and bumpy conditions to dominate the match but only landing up with a 1-0 win….that said, it is always good to start with both sides taking the three points…..this weekend we make the little trip down the road to Currin Park where we take on Old Bens in the traditional Benoni Derby…. so we will be looking for your presence in a show of massive support on the day…. enjoy the match boys…bring back the points for us….
Our Cricketers disappointed on the weekend….losing to Alberton by 5 wickets in what must be surely our poorest performance to date…. I am not going to elaborate on this performance as I believe that this was the exception rather than the rule…this week our fellows travel to Actonville to take on Spurs…whilst we are on top of the league….we still need a comprehensive victory to remain in that position…so to Kurt and his charges….forget last week and let us get this whole thing back on track…. give it horns….
I see that our athletes are all over the country completing Marathons and Iron Men contests in their quest to the completion of another Comrades finish in June…keep the wonderful spirit going guys…I see the car park is already filling up in the early mornings as well as being really busy at the Club run on a Wednesday evening…. nice to see the Members showing their commitment to the cause….well done guys…
That is it from me for this today….hope your week is a spectacular as well as memorable….enjoy it…. if you have any groan or applause you would like to announce…please do so to my email rod.scheepers@gmail.com
Cheers Rod
