A very good morning to you all
A grey and overcast morning greets me from the North…with the signs of Autumn fast approaching….as the leaves on the Pin Oaks begin to quickly alter their hues from brilliant green….to faded yellow…burnished oranges and deep red…finally ending with a crinkly brown dead leaf that bears no resemblance to its lively summer self….and whilst it makes me sad to see the ending of summer…..it marks one of the positives for all of the Members that play winter sports….we are about to kick off…rugby, baseball, hockey and soccer players now emerge from their summer siesta….and eagerly await their season to begin….
Friday was a great festive affair again…with a super band Black and Blue entertaining us…their second visit to the Club has produced more followers than before and they are proving to be most popular…whilst they were serenading us….people were buying their Joker draw tickets and a feeding frenzy is beginning as the Jackpot is over R150k now….and this week Jane Nielsen had a second chance for this draw…as her name was selected from the beeeeg black box….and it was now “old hat” for her….she calmly smiled for camera and had her photo taken….and then immediately pointed out the card of her choice (top row, last available card on the right)…..which, to her disappointment, turned out to be the ten of diamonds….amid tumultuous applause and singing “Cheerio” from the Soccer boys (who seem to have returned to their usual of table, after a bit of a sabbatical)….so the Jackpot lives on for another week….and we have only 12 cards left to choose from…..and the jackpot jumps another notch….this time settling at R161495…this week we welcome the father and son duo of the “Wilsons” who play non stop…and keep the feet tapping and on the dance floor…..
Our soccer boys visited the Italian Club in Bedfordview last weekend and with another set of matches where feeling was we should have come home with the full 6 points…but we only landed up bringing back 4…..the reserves had a cracker of a match with amazing goals from the young strikers and some impressive skills from everyone else resulted in us running out 5-1 easy victors in this match….our first side looked they had an early plane to catch and played some superb football in the first half to run into an quick 2-0 lead….however some sloppy defending, missing our chances and allowing some indifferent decisions to rattle us, we let the opposition in on a couple of occasions to level the scores and had to be satisfied with a share of the spoils and a point for the afternoons efforts….this week we take on Kempton in what promises to be a crackerjack of a match….reserves kick off at 13h45 with the super league starting at 15h30…
With the men’s hockey first side match being postponed, the mantle of the top side playing fell on the shoulders of our second side…..and with the opportunity to play as close to home as they ever have, the match was on the Easterns Astro at Northerns against Bedfordview….and for the second time in 24 hours, we shared point with our opponents from the Gilloolys interchange vicinity….with a 1-1 draw….fixtures for this week have not been finalised….and as the first team match is against CBC Boksburg, we are hoping that the match is to be moved to the East Rand….please keep an eye on our social media platforms, to see if we have been able to swing the vote for the match to be hosted locally…. this weekend also sees the start of the local Easterns leagues….so with the Ladies hitting off on Saturday afternoon and the Men up early on Sunday morning…it promises to be the start of another busy and successful season….Expect to see masses of hockey players, partying, fining, dancing and drinking in our beer garden from this weekend for another six or so months….
Congratulations to two of our young Baseballers, Luke Emmet and Conner Steyn, who have been included in the U12 national squad to go to Taiwan for the Baseball World Cup…well done young men… we are extremely proud of you and your achievements….
Another accolade that our Juniors have brought back to the North recently…the U17 Super League Soccer side, brought back the trophy from the BCC pre-season Tournament….super stuff fellows….let’s hope you continue in that vein for the rest of the year….
With the end of the school holidays…. expect an influx of youngsters at the Club….particularly on Saturday mornings with Hockey practice and Soccer matches…there is always much excitement generated by these future leaders at the North…
If there is anything you would like to bring to my attention….please send me a mail to rod.scheepers@gmail.com ….
That’s all have for today…..have a great week.
See you all soon… Rod
