The Scimitar 27 Feb 2019
BNSC NEWSLETTER
Hi there to everyone…..
An exciting week awaits us…as we head towards our financial year end and the implementation of the new Membership cards….with the arrival of the new month…we will have new price lists…. one for Members and one for non-Members, guests and visitors…..our Membership cards will be issued once a Members subs are paid…and the purpose of the new cards has some great benefits to the Members, the Club and Management alike….for the Members it will ensure that you will be paying a competitive and discounted rate as a Member and enjoying promotions at various times….as a Club it will define our crossing of the Rubicon into the technology race, whilst additionally allowing the payments of subscriptions to be accounted for more efficiently…..and for the Management of Club it will ensure a more complete Membership list and an improved communication tool for the future…
If I could ask you to please allow a little leeway in the first few days of the implementation….we have tried to define of all the avenues of deviation with the necessary and applicable problem solving…but I am sure that despite all our efforts, there will be some teething problems that will occur…and it may just be you that will be inconvenienced while we attend to the problem…so I ask for your tolerance and patience if it does occur….
Our Soccer players had a friendly match against Benfica on Saturday….with the second side running out 4-2 winners….having an excellent first half, being 4-0 up at the break…but a poor second half allowed the opposition back into the contest…. The first side was the exact opposite of the reserve encounter….being 1-0 down at half-time….but the strikers produced a sterling effort in the second period….bagging 5 unanswered goals in the second stanza….to run out easy 5-1 winners….a lot of valuable lessons have been learned over the last four matches…and will serve as a solid foundation for the season which kicks off on Saturday….our teams travel to Musa United (a new side in the Super League) to test their skills….good luck boys…let us have the best possible start to the season by bringing home full points from our top teams to start us off on the right foot…
The Rugby boys had their outing at the Springs tournament, with the U21’s having a most successful day registering a 7-5 win….with Patrick Mack being named as player of the match in this fiercely fought encounter…the seconds had the disappointment of having their opposition not arriving for their match….so that meant that the spotlight fell onto the firsts…but they had a disappointing day…with Ellisras proving far too good for us on the day….running out comprehensive 36-5 winners…this weekend all out sides are off to Brakpan…I hope we will be implementing the lessons learned from the first two matches to good effect….
Friday saw a great rocking evening of music with Cedz and Tryst playing some awesome classics, with some brilliant guitar solos….which had the crowd baying for more….so of course that means that another appointment with these talented musicians is guaranteed……this week we have Billy and Martin who team up to play as Coyote at the North….it has been awhile since there last appearance…so please welcome them back with a great crowd to listen to them play….
Our selection of the Joker draw candidate this week landed up with one of the faithful…someone who at times has been added into the fixed asset register….Brad Knight….and despite complaining of a dreadful gout attack, was able to shuffle through from his “spot” in the corner of the Scimitar and took his place at the cabinet….only to reveal his choice as the King of Diamonds…..with another toll over, the Jackpot now climbs up to R136127…so join us this week as you could be the next person selected to show us where the Joker is….ticket sales start at 17h00, with last sales at 19h20 and the draw commencing at 19h30….tickets are only R5…but you can purchase many as you wish to improve your chances of being selected….
Our runners are gearing up and starting the slow build up process to the Comrades in June…and last weekend was the DisChem Marathon….I did hear few complaints that it was a Club hills practice session on Saturday….so that took its toll on the runners at the Marathon on Sunday….but quite a few of our participants have said that the Comrades is not a “walk in the park”…so the Contestants better start getting used to not everything being “too easy”….. all the best to our runners…may your legs and feet be swift and your mind and heart be strong….
The hockey 5’s came to an end last Sunday…and may I wish all the Winners a congratulations….I watched some of the matches in this exciting brand of hockey…and it really is “fast and furious”….I am sure that all the participants enjoyed their time out there…but now it is time to start preparing for the 11 players games…that should he hitting off in early April….so start getting yourselves fit and ready for another competitive season….
Our cricketers visit to Barnard Stadium was not one of those to be remembered….let me suffice to say that we lost by 5 wickets…. but still top the league…and if we win out remain two matches….will definitely still end the season as League Champions…..if we can do that there is not much else we could ask for…..this week we play Alberton (who are currently in 2nd place at home with the first ball being bowled at 10h00 on Sunday morning.
Next Saturday marks the registration of both Junior Soccer and Junior Hockey players…so please bear in mind of you are at the Club on Saturday morning…to please be aware that there will be piles of excited kids running around…if you could exercise caution in the car park and surrounds….as I am sure that with all the joy and excitement overflowing…. there could be some errors of judgement exercise when these junior members walk into high traffic areas….
I wish you all well for this week as we approach the end of February already….if you believe that there is something happening to the Club that is possibly not to your liking….or if there is something that you particularly like….please email me at rod.scheepers@gmail.com…. Thank you
Cheers Rod

Benoni Northerns Rugby U21’s had to grind the game out to be eventual winners with the score 7-5 againts Randfontein over the weekend. Randfontein scored first but didnt convert. Benoni scored soon after with try under the uprights with their wing Dylan Lindecke and conversion from Adam Meyer. Patrick Mack had the honour of being the man of the match after a hard game. In the other game Benoni firsts unfortunately lost against Ellisras 36-5. Ellisras was the better team on the day and had revenge for the defeat they suffered last year. Second team didnt get to play cause the opposition didnt pitch .
