A great good morning shout out to you all
As we begin a new year, I would like to take this opportunity…to wish all our Members and readers a happy and prosperous 2019….I hope that this is the year where your wishes come true and that it will be highly successful for us all and collectively as a Club.
We have had some really varying weather patterns…with some heat wave conditions, some chilly winds, whilst intermittently experiencing some really tropical storms as well…. I wasn’t sure if we were staying at the coast with some of the humid days that we have experienced of late….but I am still extremely happy that we are still busy with my favourite season, summer and there is still a while away before I have to haul out my winter woollies to wrap up….I trust that the summer break was enjoyed by all….whether you were lazing at home, on the beach, in the bush, on a farm, in the mountains or even some exotic destination… I hope that we are all ready to take on the challenges that await us with vigour and verve and that these are accomplished with ease.
Our last night of festivities in 2018 was a great evening….with partying, singing and dancing being the order of the evening….the 5 piece band, Omega, proved to be a popular attraction again, with plenty of people enjoying their versions of some classics and new covers that we haven’t heard before until late into the evening, despite some rain coming in trying to spoil our party, we were able to still finish the night dry with the aid of the tent over the patio…a little earlier in the evening Marco du Plessis had his name drawn out of the beeeeg black box and was standing apprehensively in front of the Joker cabinet….trying to formulate his plan and system to see if he could determine where the joker is, he was even brought a beer case to stand that we could ensure that he had a view of the entire board….but it all came to naught as his selection (which happened to be in the middle of the bottom row!!) turned out to be the ace of hearts…..with the joyous applause from the crowd indicating that everyone was most chuffed the Jackpot was still available for the new year….so this week, we will start the year with R106 280 available for the person who can show where the Joker has been hiding himself….as our entertainment for the evening we welcome back Adam from Boycott Ballad….who is always a popular maestro with his amazing voice and interesting take on favourites, giving them a quite unique feel and sound….with it being the first official Joker draw Friday of the year, we will have the jumping castle available for the kids entertainment…I’m sure there will be a few Junior cricketer’s who will test how well that works while their parents are able to enjoy a cool refreshment in the beer garden…. join us if you don’t want to miss out….
Our cricketers hosted their annual 6-a-side tournament last weekend…and what a lot of fun it turned out to be…sixes…fours…wickets galore….plenty of laughs…throw in buckets of beer…and it is the recipe for a great day of fun….thanks to Dylan and his crew for a super event…this is definitely an occasion not to be missed….diarise it already for next year….first weekend in January and already a full set of fixtures up for our cricketers….our Premier side play their first game of the year at home, when they host Kwa Thema on Sunday starting at 10….please pop down and support our boys in their quest to win the league….
The Soccer have already started their pre-season training and had a great turn out on Sunday at the first run of the season…Coach Jannie is quite excited at the numbers that have arrived and shown interest thus far….practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 18h30 sharp and also n a Sunday morning at 09h30….it is suggested that you include running shoes in your soccer kit bag…..I have a feeling that fitness will be concentrated on at the moment….
Hockey will continue at the end of the month with Hockey 5’s whilst I think that Rugby will be starting off with pre-season training very soon….please note that we will have a fully fledged Junior section playing Rugby out of our beloved North this year…so well done to the administrators for getting that off the drawing board and onto the playing fields…
Our Baseballers are also already busy on the diamonds practicing for the second half of the year…so good luck with all your matches too…
That’s all for this first edition of the new year….again let me wish you all the best for the oncoming year…remember that if you have any suggestions or complaints…please email me on rod.scheepers@gmail.com
Have a great week…and to all our Junior Members starting school tomorrow…good luck in your next year of studies, as all the parents collectively breathe a sigh of relief I’m sure…was it my imagination or was this holiday seriously short?
Cheers…take care
Rod
