I know I don’t complain much, about anything, or at least I think so, but there was a dearth of good cards last night. At least for me! But there I go again you might say, complaining again!
The evening was good for Tor and Cathy, they certainly had no complaints, with a winning score of 68%, followed by Deirdre and Helen. What was particularly interesting for me was the good performance of Dallis and Rosemarie in 4th position. Well done indeed you two. Keep it up!
On this somewhat cold August morning, when I’ve already walked the big guy (Troy), thereby having my morning exercise, I now contemplate my day with the thought that, in broadening the base of regular bridge players in Benoni, we are building our club brick by brick, becoming a major club on the Highveld and doing our bit to advance the game that constantly challenges our intellect. What a good thing it is that we play this game, that we exercise our minds, that we compete. Next time you win, next time you feel inwardly superior when you play really well, in fact when you might berate yourself for gloating inwardly, just realise that we compete in order to win. There’s nothing wrong with being proud of yourself when you do. It’s just a matter of how you reflect it, whether you don’t gloat at someone else’s expense.
That’s it for today. Pitch up tomorrow, do battle, be gracious in victory and defeat.
