It was coldddd..last night, with a wind straight from the Antarctic blowing up the alley leading to our storeroom. Just to fetch the paraphernalia of our club was a task of note! So we scurried up and down carrying trays with bidding boxes, tea things, cloths, movement cards etc, braving the elements bravely, all without complaining, just to play this game we love so much. Wow!
Over to the events of the night. There was a dead heat, between Bill and Jan, and Paul and Bridie for first place, followed by Di and Barbara and Bernie and myself. The hands were challenging, as they should be, with some great, easily biddable contracts and also some very tricky part score hands which were oh so easy to mess up.
I just have to comment on one hand, and this one is for you, Bernie. Board number 13 should only make 3 Spades with proper defense, where everyone made at least 10 tricks. The Ace of hearts, the K of Spades, two club tricks completes a one trick defeat of 4 Spades.Nobody found this defense, where a heart lead to the Ace, followed by a Q of clubs coming back will ensure you make two club tricks, then the King of Spades.
Now it’s time for another coffee, a visit to the shops, because it’s pensioners day at Pand P, morning tea, a good book, a leisurely afternoon, binge watch last night’s TV shows which were recorded, fast forward over the Outsurance ads, pet insurance etc.
